TERMOLI. The Majorana institute of Termoli wins first prize in the national competition promoted by the Ministry of Education and Merit and AsviS (Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development) “Let’s do 17 Goals: School and the UN 2030 Agenda for sustainable development”.

The Technical Institute “E. Majorana” in Termoli continues the work begun on energy communities and obtains first place in the national competition promoted by the Ministry of Education and Merit and AsviS (Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development) “Let’s set 17 Goals: School and the UN 2030 Agenda for sustainable development“.

The initiative was aimed at educational institutions of all levels, state and private, and at provincial centers for adult education with the aim of disseminating the issues contained in the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development and promoting reflections in educational communities around the following themes: peace, justice and rights, inequalities, migrations, climate change.

The objectives set by the competition were to promote awareness, systemic, critical and creative thinking, commitment and active citizenship of the young generations for sustainable development, also considering the modification of articles 9 and 41 of the Constitution, which took place in February 2022, in the name of sustainable development and the principle of intergenerational justice. Furthermore, promote participatory methodological approaches in order to encourage the protagonism of students in the planning and implementation of initiatives promoted by schools by initiating organizational and educational change actions based on the sustainability of the school itself. Enhance existing initiatives and activities on education for sustainable development and initiatives to raise awareness of responsible citizenship, also involving the local area.

The Sustainable Development Goals are universal, underline global interdependence, apply to all countries and are “integrated and indivisible”, harmonizing the dimensions of sustainable development – economic, social and environmental – supported by the institutional dimension.

The project to develop an energy community in the area of Termoli and the study and in-depth work fully met the demands of the competition, namely to create a possible sustainable model of school and teaching implemented within one or more dimensions of the sustainability, for the entire school community, for each of its components and for the reference territory.

The awards ceremony will take place on May 17th, as part of the initiatives of the “Sustainable Development Festival” at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome.
