Trieste Spring Run: here are the top runners

The Trieste Spring Run 2024, organized by the APD Miramar with the collaboration of the Asd Trieste Atletica Aps, the co-organization of the Municipality of Trieste and the patronage of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region, is increasingly coming to life. Clearly, Sunday 5 May will be the key day with the Bavisela Family Run (starting at 10:00 from Miramare Castle), the novelty represented by the Solidarity Relay by Dynamo Camp (starting at 9:45 from Miramare Castle ), the Trieste 21K Spring Roller Marathon (start at 9:00 from Duino) and the Trieste 21K, the most fascinating half marathon in Europe with the sea always keeping the participants company.

The organizing committee has revealed the names of the most anticipated athletes, who will try to enter their names in the roll of honor of the Trieste 21K, which in 2023 welcomed the Rwandan Emeline Imanizabayo (1h13:29) and the Kenyan Abraham Ebenyo Ekwan (1h03:55).

Over the 21.0975 km, starting from Duino and a route that will develop along the Coastal Road, the Barcola seafront, the Porto Vecchio-Porto Vivo area and the splendid arrival in Piazza Unità d’Italia, among the women there should be an African duel for success. The contenders respond to the profiles of the Kenyan Nancy Kerubo Kerage, registered with the Asd Acsi Atletica Campidoglio and capable in 2022 of running the half in 1h16:40, who will try to mock the Ethiopian Asmerawork Bekele Wolkeba, born in 1991 and bearer of the ASD Turin running, which clocked an interesting time of 1h12:10 on the streets of Turin in 2010.

In the men’s competition (as in the women’s competition, surprises could always be around the corner), it should be a small group of African athletes who are the underdogs. The lighthouse of the race could be the twenty-three-year-old Burundian of Cosenza K42 Leonce Bukuru, who this season clocked a good 30:40.88 over 10,000m on the track while in 2022 in Arezzo, over 21.0975 km, he ran in 1h02:56. If the Kenyan Timothy Kimutai Kirui, great protagonist of international mountain running, could be the classic loose cannon, the public will also have to keep an eye on the Moroccans Aziz Lakriti, registered for the Asd Podistica Normanna and able to run the half marathon in 2022 in Pisa in 1h04:24, and Raadoine Amehdy (Atletica Brugnera Friulintagli) who, last May 1st also ran in 32:10 over the 10km in Codroipo, clocked 1h07:16 in 2022 at the Trieste 21K. Among the Italians, attention should be paid to the expert Abdoullah Bamoussa, who has always lived between Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Bamoussa will try to defend the blue colors on the streets of Trieste. The 37-year-old, representative of the GP Livenza Sacile, in his career was able to wear the shirt of the Italian national team in the 3000m steeplechase at the European Championships in Amsterdam (2016), at the World Championships in London (2017) and also at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro (2016 ), the pinnacle of his career. He boasts, in the half marathon, a personal best of 1h05:10 while at the 2022 Trieste 21K, he closed his effort after 1h05:34. Finally, there will also be the Slovenian Rok Puhar, among those eligible for the leading positions: the Slovenian, often a protagonist at the Trieste Spring Run and at the Mujalonga Sul Mar, born in 1992, finished the Mujalonga Sul Mar in 6th place last April 21st in 32:11 and a personal best in the half marathon of 1h05:47. In Slovenia, there is curiosity to see the Slovenian ultrarunner Patrik Korenjak at work.

As already reported in recent weeks, the Trieste Spring Run is synonymous with all-round sport and is giving the city events of all kinds that are not to be missed. Tomorrow, Saturday 4 May, one of the key events will certainly be the “Sport, Prevention, Wellbeing” conference, which will take place from 9:00 to 17:00 at the Salone degli Incanti in Trieste (Riva Nazario Sauro n.1) and which is organized by the Sports Medical Association of Trieste under the guidance of Dr. Marcello Tence, Healthcare Manager of US Triestina Calcio. The event is supported by countless bodies: University of Trieste, Committee for University Sport, Fintria Srl, Regional Committee of Fidal (Italian Athletics Federation), Fidal Centro Studi e Ricerche, Panathlon, US Triestina Calcio, Io Sono Friuli Venezia Giulia, Municipality of Trieste, Italian Sports Medical Federation and clearly Apd Miramar and Asd Trieste Atletica Aps.

Remembering how participation in the seminar will determine 0.5 training credits for technicians registered with Fidal, the event is also and above all open to doctors, physiotherapists, nurses, biologists, pharmacists and doctors in motor sciences. The parterre of protagonists and moderators is rich, among which the presence of Prof. A Di Lenarda ((Director of SC CARDIOVASCULAR AND SPORTS MEDICINE – OSPEDALE MAGGIORE TRIESTE), of Prof. L. Murena (DIRECTOR OF SC ORTHOPEDICS AND TRAUMATOLOGY CLINIC – HOSPITAL) stands out. CATTINARA TRIESTE, by Prof. G. Biolo (DIRECTOR OF SC MEDICAL CLINIC – CATTINARA TRIESTE HOSPITAL), by Dr. I. Tavcar (DIRECTOR OF SC CARDIOVASCULAR PATHOLOGIES – CATTINARA TRIESTE HOSPITAL and by Dr. P. Bergagna (PRESIDENT OF THE TRIESTE SPORTS MEDICAL ASSOCIATION) .
