Livorno, 4 May 2024 – Until Sunday 5 May included, from 10.30 to 21.30, at the Terrazza Mascagni, the cake makers will continuously bake the typical chickpea cake, and then prepare the traditional 5e5 both in the classic version (French bread or Schiacciatina with the cake inside and the addition or not of pepper ), than in the version with aubergines.
The association’s cake makers who will alternate with the two wood-fired ovens are Alepizza, Cecco, Forti, Gagarin, I tre canti, Leone and Seghieri. The event, at the Eden of the Terrazza Mascagni, is aimed both at offering this typical Livorno tradition to tourists but also at making it known to younger people.
Last year, as many as 6,000 customers purchased the 5e5 at the Terrazza Mascagni during the three days of the event.
Precisely for this reason the promotion on the price with the 5e5 will also be repeated with the aubergines at three euros and the classic one for two euros, as well as the portion of simple cake. The inevitable blonde foam or other drinks can also be purchased.
The proceeds will go to finance the activities of the Tortai Association and in particular the meetings in city schools from nursery to middle school to introduce younger people to the knowledge of the tradition and goodness of chickpea cake.
In the current school year, approximately 1000 children and young people were met, more than tripling the number of last year.
