THE EAGLE. 90 minutes from the end of the regular season, L’Aquila’s sporting director, Simone Perotti, takes stock of the situation. «While we still regret not having achieved first place, this championship was important, exhilarating in certain respects, which should certainly be given 8 and a half, if not a little more», says the rossoblù sporting director. «A great catch-up was made, especially starting from the period in which we were lagging behind the pacesetters. Just think of the gap with Sambenedettese who were ahead of us by 8 points after the direct clash in the first round. There is currently a 10 point gap in our favor and at the same time we are 9 points from third. All this demonstrates how important work has been carried out, strengthened by Cappellacci’s skill after a mini-revolution in the market and by the unity of a group of men and professionals supported by an ambitious company that is increasingly structuring itself for the future ».
Now we have to play the derby with Notaresco, then head to the play-offs. Is there a risk of lowering the bar? «For a matter of prestige but also to leave no stone unturned, they must be played by L’Aquila with the utmost determination and with the will to win them in order to be included in this ranking for any repechages that may take place, so it is a path that we’re going to walk. It’s clear that the championship and the play-offs are two different things: we need to reset everything we’ve done, in the obviously good sense, by concentrating on two clashes (we hope) in which all the values seen in the regular season are reset to zero. Looking at the rankings, barring sensational surprises, we could meet Roma City or Vigor Senigallia and if everything goes well, one between Avezzano and Sanbenedettese (12 and 19 May, note)”, states the manager. «I would say complicated commitments, mostly because they come at a time of the season in which a lot has been spent physically and mentally».
How much will it matter to play for access to the final and the final itself within friendly walls? «I repeat, the values will be reset to zero. Certainly having the advantage of the double result up to the 120th minute is no small feat but our objective remains to win every match, without making calculations. I tell the fans that I need them, always. If the company grows it is also due to their affection and passion.
