The organization End Antisemitism Now says more than 650 Syracuse University students and parents signed a letter sent to the university chancellor saying a growing pro-Palestinian encampment on campus represented “a significant threat to the safety and well-being of all students.” They also urge the school to remove non-students and signs they say call for the destruction of Israel.
Dated Thursday and addressed to Chancellor Kent Syverud and Syracuse University leadership, the letter states the students and parents “continue to be appalled at the growing encampment located on the University’s Quad and the administration’s lack of action to control it.”
The group states the encampment is unauthorized, attracting “people not affiliated with Syracuse University” and its inhabitants are harassing Jewish students who walk past.
It asks for the removal of all non-affiliated protesters from the encampment and all signage advocating for destruction of Israel, including those saying “from the river to the sea,” a regular security presence at the encampment and identification checks.
