In Venice, prevention and the fight against cancer go sailing with the LILT-VE Trophy

Venice is preparing to return to the regatta under the motto of “Prevention is life!”. In fact, the second edition of the was presented this morning at Cà Farsetti, headquarters of the Municipality of Venice LILT-VE Trophyan entirely charitable regatta in favor of the Italian League for the Fight against Cancer which will take place on Sunday 12 May in the waters off the Lido of Venice.

The event, conceived by the Venice Yacht Club and its president Mirko Sguario and organized in collaboration with Compagnia della Vela, Diporto Velico Veneziano, Lega Navale Italiana section. of Venice and Vento di Venezia, represents a unique opportunity to combine the passion for sailing with social commitment, supporting a noble cause and contributing to the spread of the culture of prevention.

LILT, which has one hundred years of history, has always promoted the prevention and fight against tumor diseases with research activities and assistance to cancer patients” states the president of the Venice section Dr. Carlo Pianon. “Among its many activities there is also the completely free transport of cancer patients to treatment places. Thanks to the collaboration with the Venice Yacht Club, especially in the person of its President Mirco Sguario and many other Venetian nautical clubs, the LILT Trophy promotes both a highly healthy activity such as sailing, and gives us the opportunity to raise funds to support the associative activity. In fact, last year, in the presence of city authorities, a minibus suitable for transporting disabled people was purchased and inaugurated. This year with the II Lilt Trophy we would like to replicate the beautiful experience, also enriching it with some innovations that aim to consolidate the spirit of friendship between the many sailors present and the LILT supporters”.

This year I have to thank the Navy through its commander Giampaolo Nardone, who allowed us to be their guests for the gala dinner which will be held on Saturday 11 May” said Mirko Sguario, announcing that during the evening a charity fishing event will also be organized whose proceeds will be entirely donated to LILT. The President of the City Council Ermelinda Damiano, who has always been sensitive to the topic of cancer prevention, instead drew attention to the many initiatives carried out in recent years together with LILT and the Venice Yacht Club, such as the pink vaporetto initiative during the Venice Hospitality Challenge.

The Sailing Company – explains its president Giuseppe Duca – is very happy to participate in the project that led to the Lilt Trophy, which is a tangible sign of the vitality of the Venetian sailing community and its sensitivity towards supporting associations which, like the Lilt, help the most unfortunate people. The LILT Trophy, now in its second edition, will see the participation of our Members not only on the regatta field but also actively on land, to allow the event to grow and become an event of great visibility and to reach with its message even those who, by practicing the sport of sailing, he will be made aware of the topic of prevention. As always happens in our context, success is the result of the activity of volunteers who spend themselves freely offering ideas, skills, professionalism, a lot of work and above all a lot of time so I sincerely thank you and I will ask our members for maximum participation even at sea for the best performance competitive.” stated Enrico Catarra, president of the DVV, also underlining how Diporto Velico Veneziano in its history has always concretely supported social initiatives promoted in favor of the weakest and less fortunate.

The voice of the members and of the President of the Italian Naval League, Massimo Comelato, comes out loudly, so that the demonstration on May 12th will be a large presence of boats and a strong commitment on the part of all citizens, in order to obtain funds to help all those people who often find themselves faced with enormous difficulties such as simply moving from home to a specialized center for the treatment of illnesses:”As part of its institutional goals, the Italian Naval League is inspired by the principles of associationism in order to carry out promotional and socially useful activities in favor of all those people forced to fight for their lives. These are the fundamental values ​​that unite the Venetian sailing clubs involved in this event”.
