Students-Cicerone to (re)discover the “hidden treasures” of Torre del Greco

Greek’s tower. «A tour among the beauties of the historic center to (re)discover the «hidden treasures» of Torre del Greco.

It is the initiative promoted by the Francesco Degni Higher Institute – scheduled for tomorrow 4 May, starting from 10 am and ending at 1 pm – as part of the regional project to enhance the artistic heritage of Campania in its historical and cultural context and encourage the system school to enhance teaching based on action research and participatory planning methodology. The initiative involves the simultaneous opening to the public of sites of great historical-artistic interest and the participation of students in the guise of Ciceroni with the task of leading visitors to discover some of the most evocative and precious places in the area.

The idea aims to highlight the culture of the area also from a tourist perspective, thanks to the presence of a multiplicity of attractors that have always coexisted in Torre del Greco: sea, art and craftsmanship. «This thousand-year history with environments of great value – they explain from the higher institute in Piazza Luigi Palomba – suggested to us the proposal of a historical, artistic, cultural, political and religious process that could act as a backdrop to the presentation of the chosen sites: Baronial Palace and the Cento Fontane, the coral museum, the church of Santa Maria del Principio”.

The starting point of the route will be from the parish of Sant’Anna with its ancient hypogeum which survived the eruptions of Vesuvius and its small tunnel with the remains of the ancient church and the traditional “liggiole”. Then it will be the turn of the Baronial Palace – the ancient prison later transformed into the institutional headquarters of the Municipality – and the historic Cento Fontane, the symbolic monument of the port area with its cannulas fed by the legendary Dragone river. The route will then end in Piazza Luigi Palomba, at the coral museum housed inside the Francesco Degni high school. (
