Seventeen prose shows have accompanied the city of Manfredonia through the winter, from December to today, with great and constant participation, and the last appointment has the taste of a party.
The theater comes out of the theater, thanks to the hospitality of Pizzeria Antiche Murain via Antiche Mura 18, which will welcome on its covered terrace “Salsa Saga“, the dinner/show of Company Here and Nowwhich traces one of the most identifying rituals of the South: the preparation of the sauce.
Around a table, between one course and another, three women, from three different generations, a grandmother, a mother and a daughter, talk about their lives. Three women who put the past and the present on the table in a dinner to be enjoyed, but also to be seen and listened to, a dinner in which all the senses are called to participate and where the meal to be consumed is not only made up of food, but also of emotions, flavors and stories.
The public is invited to the family restaurant, on the last day of the restaurant’s opening. A threat looms, the place could close: will the saga of preparing tomato sauce, life around the tables, existing in relation to what you eat and how you cook come to an end? Eating well, and the ritual of the table, are put at risk by the proposal to make that place a place for quick food consumption, for eating snacks and sandwiches perched on a stool in front of a tray, instead of putting one’s legs under the table and take time to enjoy and share the table. The owners of the restaurant must choose whether to continue to perpetuate the tradition of the family restaurant, whether to continue to consume their life between the tables and the courses. This choice looms large and leads to the story of a family saga closely connected to food and the preparation of a special dish: the traditional family tomato sauce. Among a succession of words, actions and sounds, food becomes the olfactory and visual scenography, the central protagonist of these tales of families and traditions.
“Food and the table have always accompanied our lives, they are an indication of our well-being and our social relationships, they tell of our desires and our fears. Saga Salsa is a family memory, it is immersing yourself in the daily lives of people to read them through the cult of food.
