Hi Gigi. In 1991, in the only previous match in Serie A in Cagliari between the Sardinians and Lecce, you were among the protagonists: do you have memories of that match at Sant’Elia?
“I remember that meeting, certainly. Not on purpose, some time ago, a friend sent me a photo of that Cagliari-Lecce match. It was an unlucky year for us… In the second round, Antonio Conte, Raimondo Marino and I got injured: the squads were certainly not the current ones, exaggerating they could have had 17-18 players. The first half of the season saw us travel with a good average of points, I would say from Europe. Then, despite not playing badly, our championship unfortunately ended with relegation. Cagliari? It was strong, wow! Just mention Francescoli, a phenomenon“.
On Sunday Cagliari and Lecce face each other at the Unipol Domus, in a very delicate battle for survival.
“I expect a good matchplayed by teams that in my opinion in the overall performance deserve less to be involved in the fight than the others, also in terms of the value of the squads“.
As far as you are concerned, as a Lecce native from San Cesario and a true Giallorossi player, your heart can only go towards cheering for Gotti’s team.
“Of course, I’m from Lecce and I support Lecce. But I have always sympathized with Cagliarias a society, which also has a certain Claudio Ranieri on the bench. Great as a man and as a coach. For their part, the Giallorossi are playing much better since Gotti’s arrival. However, this is a difficult appointment for both of them: a point could represent a welcome prize for both of them. But Lecce cannot underestimate the fact that the Sardinians have won most of their points within friendly walls“.
