The 11th edition of “The Human Rights Cinema Thursdays” starts on May 9th, the spin-off of the Naples Human Rights Film Festival which brings the debate on rights to the heart of Salerno by combining social commitment and cinematography. The review of this 2024 edition focuses on three places for as many debates that focus on global rights and the role of Italy and Europe in a complex chessboard: the title “Cutro, Kiev, Gaza – Italy and Europe between wars and migrations” says a lot about this year’s program. There will be many witnesses and experts who will guide the public through three emblematic places of memory, struggle, history, war and solidarity.

The series of meetings begins on May 9th with the participation of Domenico Oliverio, witness of the Cutro events and guardian of unaccompanied minors. On May 23, it will be the turn of Gianfranco Schiavone, a jurist expert in migrant rights, who will present “Chiusi Inside”, an analysis of the reception policies of the 27 European states published by Altreconomia. Finally, on June 6, Raffaella Cosentino, RaiNews correspondent in the theaters of war, will share the testimonies of the Ukrainian and Palestinian populations.

“The event – explains the organizer Maurizio Del Bufalo – aims to stimulate critical reflection on the global reality, which continues to neglect universal rights and suffer from conflicts and injustices”. The three meetings will be held in the Molinari room of the Capuchin cloister, in Piazza San Francesco in Salerno. The events, scheduled for 6pm on May 9th, 23rd and June 6th, are open to the public free of charge.

“This is a rallying call to invite the citizens of Salerno and its surroundings to join us for these three Thursdays of discussion, narration and political cinema, in an environment where the voice of direct witnesses rises above the din of partisan narratives” , concludes Del Bufalo. “With a call for peace and understanding, this exhibition represents an unmissable opportunity for all those interested in delving deeper into the reasons for modern conflicts and the humanity that persists despite violence.”
