Walking, running, being together: in Foggia the second edition of “Run For”, a national road running competition

L‘ASD Foggia Running, in collaboration with the CerBelli Association and with the US Foggia-SNA Athletics, organized the second edition of “Run for”, a running event included in the national federal calendar of 10 km races, bronze level, which aims to promote physical activity and correct and healthy lifestyles. Runners and walkers from all over Italy have met on May 19th, h. 9:00, at the entrance to the Villa Comunale of Foggia (near the Palazzetto Rosa) for a day of sport and pure fun in the open air.

Two competitions are planned: “Run for TEN” – the 10km federal race (registration fee €10 per participant) and “Run for FUN” – the 5km recreational-sports walk open to all (registration fee €5 per participant ).

Compared to the previous edition the formula does not change but the routes do. Both races will start and finish via Galliani (near the Palazzetto Rosa).

The two 10 km races, “competitive” and “non-competitive”, will take place towards the southern part of the city, divided into the following route:

⁃ departure from via Galliani in the direction of viale Fortore;

⁃ passage in front of the Police Headquarters along Via Gramsci to continue to the baseball field;

⁃ via Grandi and via Mons. Farina up to via Gandhi;

⁃ passage in front of the Coni school field up to Viale I° Maggio (so-called “three lanes”);

⁃ long straight road up to Campi Diomedei Park;

⁃ arrival in via Galliani.

The 5km recreational-sports walk will consist of the following route:

⁃ departure from via Galliani in the direction of viale Fortore;

⁃ entry into Campi Diomedei Park along the internal walkways;

⁃ arrival in via Galliani.

Inside the oldest city park in Foggia, a series of structures will be installed to inform and welcome the many participants, as well as the stage for the final awards. Run for is also about attention to legality and inclusion. In agreement with the Departments for Security and Legality, School and Culture of the Municipality of Foggia, the Run for FUN, a 5km walk open to all, has been renamed “Walk for Legality and Inclusion”, becoming part of the “100 days for Legality” initiative. The absolute protagonists will be the primary schools of Foggia, all invited to participate. Part of the proceeds from registrations for the “Run for FUN” will be donated to the CerBelli association which intends to build a shared vision of an inclusive community and promote the empowerment of neurodivergent people. Furthermore, thanks to the generosity of one of the event’s partners, 500 children will be able to take part in the walk for free.

Also for the 2024 edition, the event will see the special participation of the Army, thanks to the active involvement of the two city barracks of the Pinerolo Brigade, the 21st Artillery Regiment and the 11th Engineers Regiment, which will run with over 400 soldiers. Inside the Villa Comunale there will be Info-points useful for learning more about the Armed Forces and receiving information.

Due to its high social impact, this year too “Run for” has received important patronage: patronage of the Presidency of the Puglia Region Council, patronage of the Municipality of Foggia, patronage of the University of Foggia, patronage of the Chamber of Commerce of Foggia, patronage of the Foundation Captaincy for Sport, Patronage of Coni Puglia, Patronage of the Fidal Foggia Provincial Committee, Patronage of the Army

The “Run for” will be a great party! Inside the Villa Comunale and along the entire route there will be speakers, entertainment and lots of music to encourage and cheer up the participants during the competitions. Everyone has a good reason to run or walk: to get back into shape, to improve physical fitness, or simply for the pleasure of being together.
