“Call me Giorgia, I’ll be your beer”. The former Prime Minister quotes an old advertisement for Peroni beer Romano Prodi who, guest of A clean sweep (La7), jokes about the invitation addressed to his voters by Giorgia Meloni, candidate for the European elections as the leader in all the electoral constituencies: give her preference by writing only her name on the ballot paper.
To the host’s question Corrado Formigli who asks him if the Prime Minister is a leader of the people, Prodi replies annoyed: “But what does ‘leader of the people’ mean? It’s like despising the people: I am me and the rest is the people. And yet they are citizens. I have never felt out of touch with the people.”
I also criticize Prodi’s judgment on the photo that immortalizes two public managers, the prefect Bruno Frattasidirector ofNational Cybersecurity Agencyand the former ambassador Stefano Pontecorvopresident of Leonardo. with the t-shirt of Brothers of Italy at the party event in Pescara: “When I saw that image, my first reaction was to say: Meloni will build a t-shirt factory. They take everything and therefore he will need so many t-shirts to fill a stadium. They are taking over the state and everything that can be seized – he continues – And their objective is evidently the premiered. On the other hand, the ‘Call me Giorgia’ advertisement, which, let’s be clear, is completely legitimate and does not shock me, has a very specific objective: the personalization of power. So the premiership comes naturally after this process.”
“What would he have done as president ofIri what if two senior executives had done something like this?”, asks Formigli.
“They would never have done it – replies Prodi – because they understood that the atmosphere was different. If instead those two state managers do it, it means that they think this benefits their career“.
Finally, the founding father of the Ulivo reiterates his harsh opinion on the decision of the secretary of the Democratic Party Elly Schleinlike that of other leaders, from Meloni to Tajani to Calendar: running for the European elections without leaving the Italian Parliament: “The candidacy for a role that will not be filled – says Prodi – it is immoral. I may be old fashioned but this is my belief.”
