Matera, dispute between foreigners quelled by the Police and Carabinieri: four arrests

MATERA – State Police and Carabinieri of Matera have arrested four foreign citizens, guests of an Extraordinary Reception Centre. The crimes against them include resistance to a public official, injuries and threats.

With a phone call to 113, on the afternoon of last Saturday 20 April, the Centre’s representative requested the intervention of the Police, reporting an ongoing dispute between some of the guests.

The police officers who arrived on site initially managed to restore calm. But during the process of identifying the people involved, one of the subjects began to rage. Holding a BIC pen without a cap like a dagger, he attacked one of the operators who intervened, instigating three other men to do the same thing.

Only the prompt reaction of the attacked policeman prevented the worst. With the help of his colleague and two Carabinieri from the mobile radio section who came to help, the four men were rendered harmless. The collaboration of a cultural mediator present in the structure was also fundamental to calming things down. At the end of the operation, a State Police officer had to seek treatment in the emergency room. The Flying Squad officers also arrived on site and took the four subjects to the police station, where the intransigent behavior towards the officers continued.

After the precise reconstruction of the events that occurred, also through listening to witnesses and the acquisition of video footage taken by the CAS managers, the four were arrested in flagrante delicto and taken to the local prison, awaiting the validation judgment . Following the outcome of the latter, the GIP, after having validated the arrest, ordered house arrest.
