A meeting to update on the state of the situation, on both sides. As already announced, a government delegation led by the Minister of Sport Andrea Abodi and the Cagliari Calcio they met to take stock of the situation new Gigi Riva stadium.

The meeting

The meeting saw the participation of the club president Tommaso Giulini, the managing director Carlo Catte, the director of the Business & Media area Stefano Melis and the board member Stefano Signorelli for Cagliari, as well as representatives of Costim and Impresa Percassi, partners identified for the construction of the future plant. With the club also benefiting from the support of the engineer Alessandro Gosti and the lawyer Marco Cerritelli. On the other side of the table, in addition to Abodi, was also the Minister of Economy and Finance Giancarlo Giorgetti, the representatives of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti and Credito Sportivo. The parties spoke about the situation linked to the bureaucratic process of the new stadium, currently apparently static due to the political situation which involved both the institutions and the regional offices, and the municipality of the capital. Municipality which was however present with the representatives of the RUP (Single Procedure Manager) Daniele Olla and Salvatore Farci, supported by Marco Naseddu and Gianluca Cadeddu of the Regional Programming Center of the Region.

Dialogue

The dialogue once again focused on what could be the possible benefits for the works. Minister Abodi in an event concerning the San Siro Stadium had anticipated the possibility of opening up the choice of a Commissioner to resolve the problem of the slowness of the proceedings, already denounced by the president of Cagliari Giulini in the past few weeks. On the table, however, in addition to the technical figure, there is also precise legislation to accelerate the processes and more concrete economic maneuvers: above all that of setting up funds, an equity one – to thus raise external capital – and a real estate one, as well as the feeding of the system of guarantees and the related reduction of interest. The will of the parties appears clear: that of speeding up the process as much as possible and making Cagliari one of the candidate cities to host the 2032 European Championships. However, it remains to be understood what choices will actually take shape in the coming months.

Stefano Melis spoke about the meeting through the company’s channels: “It was a positive and proactive work table, in which the various actors involved showed a renewed impulse in identifying a simplified path towards the creation of modern stadiums for the Village. Like other Italian cities, Cagliari and Sardinia deserve to have large public infrastructures with social value as soon as possible, suitable for hosting large international events”.
