Roberto Venesia backs down

He will have to do without the number one Piedmontese family doctor, Alberto Cirio. In the end Roberto Venesiathe regional secretary of the Italian Federation of General Practitioners, has decided not to run with the Cirio civic list – moderate and liberal Piedmont. After months of courtship by the outgoing governor, the trade unionist with the white coats preferred not to run, remaining in the wings of the centrist formation which brings together numerous colleagues from the world of healthcare, in the promoting committee.

A reasoned decision from the desire to continue one’s trade union commitment, rather than attempting (or rather risking) a direct electoral race whose outcome would have been anything but obvious, given that old women are competing for a seat in the Regional Council on the president’s list lines of Piedmontese politics as Gianluca Vignale (former AN currently Cirio’s head of cabinet) or the exponent of the Moderates and champion of preferences Silvio Magliano. Cirio will still be able to count on the presence of other leading healthcare figures, such as the oncologist Paola Varese and the number one pediatrician Giuseppe Palena, as well as on the support of the head doctor of Regina Margherita Franca Fagioli.
