It will take place on Saturday 4 May Busca the third conference of the initiative “A cardioprotected city” which is entitled “The power of the next generation” scheduled from 8.30 am in the Porta Santa Maria meeting space with local and national experts. The power of young people to be the driving force of the changing community is also evident in the sector of health prevention. Local and national experts discuss this topic in Busca precisely because a cultural revolution has taken place in this city in the last eight years.

“An entire community – explains the creator of the project Jacopo Giamelloemergency medicine doctor at the Santa Croce Carle hospital in Cuneo -, including the youngest citizens, has become aware that it is ordinary people who make the difference by helping to save the lives of victims of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, which is responsible for over sixty thousand deaths a year in Italy. In many cases, thanks to early cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the equally early use of the defibrillator, these lives can be saved.”

In Busca, a Public access defibrillation (Pad) project was completed: numerous defibrillators were purchased, positioned so that every place in the historic center and the main hamlets can be reached by the life-saving instrument within 4 minutes; 42 BLSD courses were held which trained 1302 adults, or 12.8% of the population. Furthermore, two years ago, a parallel training plan was launched for pupils in the city’s primary and middle schools: starting from first grade up to eighth grade, pupils are offered a training course that helps them learn the basics first aid, from calling 112 to using the defibrillator. “This is an example at a national level – concludes Giamello – which Busca would be very happy to see copied by everyone.”

The event, sold out for some time, is free and open to all and is organized in collaboration with the Italian Red Cross and the Idee.Comunitità association; for healthcare workers, the provision of 6 ECM credits is envisaged.
