The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajanimet the President of the Republic of Albania in Torre Melissa, in the province of Crotone, Calabria, Bajram Begaj. The meeting offered the opportunity to underline the significant progress made in consolidating ties between Italy and Albania, which finds one of its pillars in cooperation on the migratory dossier, thanks to the bilateral Protocol signed in November 2023. “Bilateral cooperation at the political level is particularly intense and our exchange – equal to 3.3 billion euros in 2023 – is solid: there are all the conditions to further strengthen this extraordinary relationship of friendship and to build a common future in the European Union”, he underlined Tajaniwhich reiterated Italy’s convinced support for Albania’s accession process to the EU.
Tomorrow Tajani will take part in the commemorations to celebrate the centenary of the death of Anselmo Lorecchio, Arbereshe journalist and intellectual and key figure of the Albanian Renaissance movement, scheduled in Pallagorio, in the Crotone area. The minister will also have meetings with the Calabrian community of Albanian origin, descendants of Albanian-speaking emigrants who arrived in Italy as early as the 15th century: the Calabrian community is the largest Arbereshe community in our country, with over 58,000 people.
