Castellanza stopped today, May 2nd, for the last farewell to his beloved mayor, Mirella Cerini, suddenly passed away on April 25th. To welcome Cerini’s coffin a church packed with people who came to pay their last respects to the first citizen. Present citizens – many -, around a hundred mayors wearing the tricolor sash, banners of local municipalities, associations, representatives of institutions and politicians for the funeral of Mirella Cerini. There were also many people who filled the theater in via Dante where the live broadcast of the ceremony was broadcast.

In the homily the parish priest Gianni Giudici, he recalled his smile «never denied to anyone and transparent», his passion in carrying out his role as mayor without vested interests: «Everyone understood it – said the priest -. Mirella brought out the positive side of everyone, without distinction. Even if she had a favorite category, the young people she supported so much. Having died with the tricolor sash will remain the sign of her full dedication to her city, also underlined by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella. Today we say our thanks to all the mayors, so that they put the same passion into carrying out their work of service to the community. Now reach that new city with the peace that you have called for so many times.”

Just yesterday, May 1st, the inauguration of the Piazza Lineare dell’Olona for which Mayor Cerini had worked so hard was scheduled. He remembered it his deputy mayor, Cristina Borroni, underlining his quality of mayor who knew how to listen but who also knew how to make decisions when the time was right, always remaining outside of party logic and always keeping the bar straight on the issue of legality and respect for the rules: «Many times we had asked you to take a break , not to run like you always did, but that’s not what we meant. He left us all stunned. But if we look up we realize that that speech on April 25th that you gave shortly before your death will remain your moral legacy for our city. If politics is the highest form of charity, with your life and your death you were an example for all of us of a life lived for and with love”

At the end of the ceremony the vI bishop Luca Raimondi he thanked everyone for their great participation. The prefect, Salvatore Pasquariello, the president of the province, the regional councilor Licata, the parliamentarians Alessandro Alfieri and Maria Chiara Gadda also participated in the funeral.
