The spring semester is just about wrapping up. Here’s the latest on how all Syracuse Orange Olympic sports are doing.

Syracuse Softball (26-21, 7-14)

The Orange have been on a mission since last week’s update, winning five out of their last six games since then. SU also made some history when it took two of three at home against #15 Virginia Tech last weekend, giving it a series win over a top-15 opponent for the first time in program history.

Before that, Angel Jasso tallied four hits across two games in a doubleheader sweep against LeMoyne on April 24. Against the Hokies, the outfielder racked up three more base knocks, boosting his average to a team-high 0.392.

Lindsey Hendrix twirled a gem in the circle versus VT in game one, going seven innings with just one run allowed. Madison Knight blasted a single home run in the fourth to put the Orange back in front 2-1, and Hendrix did the rest. The Hokies punched back in game two with six unanswered runs in a 7-3 win. But it was Knight who got the last laugh in game three, smashing his fourth homer in six games in a 6-2 Orange win.

Yesterday, graduate student Jessie DiPasquale hurled a complete game, one-hitter against Cornell in a 4-0 Orange win. Knight went deep once more, another solo blast to give her five homers in her last eight games.

SU looks to keep its hot streak going in its regular season finale at home, a three-game set with #16 Florida State beginning Friday at 3:00 pm

Syracuse Tennis

SU’s season as a team might be over, but two Orange athletes aren’t done just yet. Miyuka Kimoto will represent the Orange in the NCAA Individuals Championship in the singles bracket, while Kimoto and Viktoriya Kanapatskaya are the second alternate duo for the doubles bracket. The tournament begins on May 20.

Syracuse Track and Field

The Orange were busy down in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania last weekend for the Penn Relays. On Thursday, Shaleah Colaire placed 15th of 37 competitors in the women’s 400m hurdles. Elijah Mallard came in 10th in the men’s version of the event.

On Friday, the Orange women’s 4x100m relay team of Colaire, Kitana Burgard, Peyton Rollins and Kahniya James finished 11th. Jaheem Hayles took third in his men’s 110m hurdles heat race, advancing him to the finals. Naseem Smith, Anthony Vazquez and Emanuel Joseph placed 14th, 22nd and 27th, respectively, in the event. Trei Thorogood came in seventh of the men’s 100m dash preliminaries, earning a qualification for the championship race the following day.

To cap off the weekend in their respective events, Hayles finished eighth of nine in the 110m hurdles, while Thorogood picked up a fourth-place finish in the 100m dash.

Following the competition, Hayles was named Syracuse men’s athlete of the year at the ‘Cuse Awards on April 30.

Next up for Syracuse is the ACC Outdoor Championships from Atlanta, Georgia, from May 9-11.

Syracuse Rowing

On the pond, the #7 men’s rowing team swept the board in Lake Morey, Vermont, last weekend. SU retained the Packard Cup following a win over #10 Dartmouth and also defended the Conlan Cup with a victory over #13 Boston University. The Orange capped off their competition with a win over #19 Georgetown.

The women’s team competed in a flurry of races at the Lake Wheeler Invitation in Raleigh, North Carolina, finishing fourth in the Pocock Cup. SU’s varsity 8 and second varsity 8 each won races on the second day of the competition but couldn’t make up the ground against #5 Tennessee, #14 Duke or UCF for one of the top three spots. The Orange now have just under three weeks to prepare for the ACC Championship on May 17-18.
