Healthcare and innovation, personalized medicine to improve care and reduce inequalities — Emilia-Romagna Region

A path of care and assistance capable of considering the biological profile of the patient, but also his own personal, social and cultural dimension. That’s what he looks at PRECISEacronym for “PeRsonalized medicine Empowerment Connecting Innovation ecoSystems across Europe”, one of the winning projects within the initiative Regional Innovation Valleys.

A project by personalized healthcaretherefore, for which the Emilia Romagna regionas a partner, will invest about 2 million of Euro; 50% will be financed from resources Horizon Europe. Approximately one million euros will be used to create the cascade calls envisaged in the financing and intended to encourage collaborative research activities involving public and private companies and research centers in Emilia-Romagna.

The European Commission has approved the candidate projects within the initiative Regional Innovation Valleysone of the specific actions envisaged in the “New European Agenda for Innovation” which aims to support Europe in the challenge of innovation and the development of high-tech start-ups.

Among the winning projects is precisely PRECISEwhich will last five years and has the general objective of increasing the efficiency of interregional and transregional innovation systems, strengthening collaboration and shared resources, so as to allow the development of initiatives that facilitate the transformation of health systems towards the model/paradigm of personalized medicine and assistance.

The primary objective of PRECISEU is to contribute to the improvement of healthcare and to reduction of health inequalities in Europe, made more evident after the Covid pandemic wave, offering support for innovation deep tech related to precision medicine in different systems. All by transferring practices and solutions from region to region, and scaling high-tech healthcare innovations based on advanced therapy medicines and health data.

The project was nominated by a group of 24 partners, including Art-ER, Clust-ER Health, Spanish, Belgian, German, Swedish, Dutch and Romanian regions and companies. Among the partners of the PRECISEU consortium there is also a Ukrainian region, Rivne, represented by the Rivne Medical Cluster.
