The steps of the Teatro dei Cipressi are named after the unforgettable Arnaldo Valdarnini, maestro and correspondent for some newspapers from Castiglion Fiorentino, authentic animator of life in the town of Cassero. The simple but heartfelt ceremony took place before the inauguration of the “Maggio Castiglionese”.

Arnaldo Valdarnini, from a young age, has shown himself to be strongly linked to his city and has always done his utmost to enhance every aspect of it, cultural, artistic, recreational and human. And if there is a place that can be attributed to Maestro Valdarnini, it is the Teatro dei Cipressi with its steps.

During Holy Week, in fact, as per Castiglione tradition, for many years he was one of the protagonists of the Sacred Representation of the Passion, at the Teatro dei Cipressi, playing the role of Christ with the texts of Monsignor Angelo Tafi, an event which involved dozens and dozens of participants.

He was also the speaker of the Palio dei Rioni of Castiglion Fiorentino. Every year, with his unforgettable timbre at the microphone of the roundabout in Piazzale Garibaldi, he marked and underlined the moments ranging from the entrance of the historical procession to the proclamation of the winner of the Palio.

At the naming ceremony, among others, were also present the three great-grandchildren, children of Fabiana and Simona, who unveiled the plaque dedicated to their grandfather Arnaldo.

Eclectic and multifaceted, he sang in the local polyphonic choir and played in the Castiglionese Philharmonic. Organizer of various events and shows, for years he oversaw the local remake of the Zecchino d’Oro coined for Castiglioni as the “Golden Casserino” which saw many generations of children struggling with singing performances, bringing famous people such as Cino Tortorella ( the Magician Zurlì) and the presenter Corrado, who got to know and appreciated Castiglion Fiorentino.

He always had a passion for photography and videomaking, everyone remembers him with his camera and video camera always in tow. He made numerous documentaries and the first aerial photos of Castiglion Fiorentino, which were intended for postcards and one in particular gave rise to the stamp dedicated to the Montecchio Vesponi Castle.

Retired from his beloved school, he continued to write for La Nazione and for years was the director and editor of the monthly magazine of the Castiglione municipality, dedicating all his energies to serving the community.
