The engines for the Peace and Disarmament Arena are warming up in Verona

Ten years after the last edition, between Friday 17th and Saturday 18th May the event returns to Verona “Arena of peace and disarmament”. Pope Francis will also be present for the occasion, landing in Verona at 8am on Saturday 18 May, in the square adjacent to the Bentegodi Stadium, where he will meet the bishop of Verona Domenico Pompili, the president of Veneto Luca Zaia, the prefect of Verona Demetrio Martino and the mayor of Verona Damiano Tommasi.

At 8.30 in the basilica of San Zeno Pope Francis will meet priests and consecrated persons, while at 9.15 in Piazza San Zeno he will greet children and young people. Arrival at the Verona Arena is expected at 10.15am. The theme of this year’s meeting echoes the words of Isaiah: “Justice and peace will kiss!”. At 11.45 the Pope will reach the Montorio district house, where he will be welcomed by the director Francesca Goieni and the director of the penitentiary police Mario Piramide. Francesco will have lunch with the prisoners. The meeting is scheduled for 3pm Bentegodi Stadium for the Mass which he will concelebrate together with the bishop of Verona. The Pope’s departure for the Vatican is scheduled for 4.45pm.

The program of the event is still being defined.
