Porto Empedocle regasifier, today a debate in Agrigento

A development that protects the territory and enhances cultural heritage: this is the theme of a meeting scheduled today at 5pm at the Empedocleo club in Agrigento.

PD leaders, representatives of institutions and representatives of environmental associations will be present. The provincial secretary Simone Di Paola opened the proceedings.
We will talk about the possible construction of a regasification terminal in Porto Empedocle. Reflections will be developed starting from an evaluation of the national and regional energy plan and the commitments undertaken by our country, as part of COP30, for decarbonisation and the development of renewable energy.
We will also discuss issues regarding the potential risks relating to the operation that such an industrial plant entails and the certain damages deriving from its management, such as: the cooling and chlorination of the surrounding waters; the limitations on the operation of the port; the restriction of bathing; air pollution.
The appeals of environmentalist associations against the regional decree which extends the already expired authorizations for the construction of the plant will also be presented, as will questions to the national and European parliament.
