During the morning of April 18, in Matera, the State Police intervened after a report to the emergency number 113, which indicated a theft that had just occurred in an apartment near the city center. The perpetrators of the theft had fled in a large car.

A few minutes after the report, multiple police teams, including agents from the Flying Squad and the Flying Squad, mobilized to intercept the suspects. The police positioned themselves strategically, including the exit of the city towards Altamura, where they spotted the fugitives’ car proceeding at high speed.

The chase intensified until the fleeing car slowed down due to a traffic jam caused by two trucks. At that point, the three men on board the vehicle got out and attempted to escape on foot into the adjacent countryside, after having climbed over the guardrail. Two of them, both originally from Bari and already known to the police, were reached and arrested.

In the car, the officers found 500 euros in cash, numerous gold jewellery, two piggy banks with coins worth over 700 euros, several wristwatches, as well as burglary tools, a blowtorch, mobile phones, two-way radios and gloves. electrician. The car, with counterfeit license plates and repainted, also had a steel plate transverse to the rear seats, presumably bulletproof.

The two men were taken to the prison in Matera, while the search for the third escaped accomplice continues.
