The reflections of two winemakers: Claudio Conterno, provincial president of Cia Cuneo, and Luca Marenco, leading the young entrepreneurs of the agricultural organization.

To the Vinitaly international exhibitionorganized in Verona, la Cia-Italian Farmers has set up an elegant and well-kept exhibition space, with the presence of around thirty producers, ten of whom come from Piedmont. How did the event go for the entrepreneurs of the regional territory and those of the “Granda”? We asked the winemaker from Monforte d’Alba and provincial president of Cuneo della Cia, Claudio Conterno. He says: “The costs of participating are a little high and the organizing body will have to review this aspect in the future. Vinitaly, however, remains a reference fair for the sector that is difficult to replace. The CIA stand was very beautiful, as was the Region’s stand created with the 14 Consortia of “Piedmont Land of Wine” by president Francesco Monchiero. It was once again an excellent showcase for our wines.”

A fairly evident state of health for the Granda wine sector: “We are still doing well and the markets are responding satisfactorily. Of course, there are easier moments and others more difficult: but we have already seen many ups and downs and we will continue to adapt. We must, through the now consolidated production rigor, always maintain the highest quality and make our way of working and our territory increasingly known. In this way we will be able to maintain an appreciable share of the market. Then, climate changes require us to pay attention to news regarding the cultivation of vines. But without running after it, because the risk is running after something that has already happened. The province of Cuneo remains the “homeland” of important classics such as Barolo and Barbaresco: wines with great structure that are not in crisis and whose production characteristics must be maintained”.

At Vinitaly it exhibited its wines for the first time Luca Marenco, owner of a company in the municipality of Barolo and provincial president of Cuneo of the young entrepreneurs associated with Cia. He claims: “There was a lot of interest in the labels from Piedmont and our province. In particular for those of small family-run wineries. I am very happy to have participated: an experience to be repeated. Furthermore, it was also an opportunity for a constructive discussion with other producers on how the sector can evolve. International geopolitical tensions don’t help, but at the moment we haven’t yet felt the effects. We need to continue along the path of quality, looking more and more towards environmentally sustainable production.”
