“It is with an auspicious note that I greet Mayor Alberto Biancheri on his farewell after 10 years of service at the helm of the Municipality. I wish him all the best for the future, both in his personal life and in his professional career”. declares mayoral candidate Fulvio Fellegara regarding yesterday’s city council meeting.

“As I have always underlined – continues the candidate for mayor -, those who have had the privilege of governing for so long cannot have done everything wrong. But it is equally true that much has been left out, especially in some areas and hamlets of our city.

Today I cannot avoid commenting negatively on the latest act of this council. Despite requests from several mayoral candidates, the Biancheri council wanted to approve the practice which paves the way for the partial privatization of Rivieracqua. This act, in my opinion, goes against the popular will expressed in the 2011 referendum and compromises the action of the next Administration.

Could it have been done differently? The mayor and his majority decided no. Personally, I don’t agree. It would certainly have been a demanding challenge to face, but saving Rivieracqua without private intervention is possible.

It must be remembered that Mayor Biancheri has been in office since 2014, so he has had exactly 10 years to closely observe the evolution of Rivieracqua. He and his administration must be blamed for the delay in the transfer of Amaie Spa to Rivieracqua, a manager who ceased by law. An error that significantly contributed to the debt accumulated by the public.

This is history and it will remain so. We are on the side of the committees, represented by Cimap in the province of Imperia. We have seen the effects of private involvement in water management here in the West too, especially in Imperia, where investments have been lacking but profits for the benefit of private partners have been made. This pattern will repeat itself – concludes Fellegara – and the citizens will pay the consequences, as always”.
