“Marsala, disloyal Grillo. Forza Italia, scandalous show”

Paolo Ruggieri, the mayor Massimo Grillo recomposed the council. What idea did he have?

Long live transformism in its many aspects and its negative values. The Mayor has demonstrated that he does not know loyalty, coherence, clarity of behaviour, respect for people, be they citizens or political representatives. He cannot keep what he says and, not realizing the reality that surrounds him, he lives the present as he can, probably in the expectation of a better future. He doesn’t realize that having already replaced eight members of his council, three times, demonstrates his inability to lead the city government. He does not accept being the main culprit of an increasingly deficient situation.

Three new additions, do you have a political and non-administrative opinion to give on the three new expressions?

The three new fellow citizens who have agreed, after many sacrifices by others, to collaborate with the Mayor have their own history and, I believe, their own projects to give life to a languishing Administration, which is based on words and repeated promises of “relaunch” , which is characterized by indecision if not also by the “prawn step”.

Grillo said that finally now, since the bar has been raised, he can be mayor. Have you all been such bad councilors?

The Mayor evidently thinks little before speaking or has a poor memory. He should examine his conscience, “re-read” his behavior, understand the gravity of the failure that is his more than anyone else’s. I like to remember the names of the colleagues with whom I shared the administrative experience: Arturo Galfano, Antonella Coppola and Oreste Alagna (Counsellors designated and then confirmed in the first Council), Michele Gandolfo, Michele Milazzo, Giuseppe D’Alessandro and Valentina Piraino. All “made out” in the name of various “relaunches” promised by this Mayor and never implemented. There remains only one “survivor”, Giacomo Tumbarello, among those with whom I shared the work in the Council, now promoted to Deputy Mayor, the third of this five-year period, although expressly declared “provisional” at the time of the appointment. It is not up to me to pass judgment on the aforementioned colleagues but I believe the City has formed an opinion on the matter. As far as I’m concerned, I just want to remember that I always went to the Council to represent the Administration (often alone) and that many times I chaired the Council in the absence of the Mayor, so – at least – the aforementioned trusted me. The reality we are experiencing is before the eyes of the people of Marsala and beyond. Anyone who doesn’t have them cannot give themselves ideas, charisma, a vision of the city, unless they have the humility (which is a gift) to surround themselves with capable, competent and willing people, on whom they can place lasting trust for a shared and coherent administrative action.

Forza Italia imploded, an obvious epilogue. In your opinion, how will this tug of war between Pellegrino and Scylla end?

What is happening in Forza Italia is politically “scandalous”, as the parties are not or rather should not be “revolving doors”. Politics, the one with a capital “P”, has rules that are ultimately simple. It should not be lawful to declare yourself as a member of a party if you are not a member or if you are not a member of the council group of that party. The political line is dictated by the party bodies responsible for this, “leaks forward” should not be allowed and if this were to happen such behavior should be formally evaluated, with the related consequences.
Also in this case it is not up to me to make judgements, I am not even a member of Forza Italia nor of any other party but only of the civic movement of which I am the founder and Coordinator, ProgettiAmo Marsala. I don’t know how it will end but it is certain that the current “show” has been “censored” by many and I don’t think it benefits the City.

The mayor does not give up and hopes to reunite the centre-right, will he succeed?

I’m not a bettor but if I were forced to choose between a yes and a negative answer I would say NO. The Mayor does not give up to defend himself while the City administration languishes. How sorry I am that Marsala rises to the “honours” of the news for negative facts such as the one concerning the journalistic reports on the Monument to the Thousand! There are responsibilities that cannot always be the fault of others, you must have the courage to assume your responsibilities, without constantly looking for someone to pass them on to. As I have said and written on other occasions, I feel co-responsible, to some extent, for what did not go well in the first 27 months of administration, but I am sure that it was better before now.

Are you already working on the post-Grillo plan, which does not depend on the motion of no confidence that will ever pass?

Too many interests and too many personalities are before and behind the motion of no confidence in this Mayor. I believe that it is unlikely that such a motion will be able to pass in Marsala, should it be presented, as many have predicted. It is sad to note that some Councilors have backed down even if all positions are respectable when they have a foundation. Furthermore, I believe that positive aspects could also emerge from the discussion of a motion of no confidence in the Mayor for a better managed and lived City.
As a citizen involved in politics, I hope that Marsala can truly experience a season of awakening as soon as possible, in which all its enormous potential can be exploited.

European elections, is your vote for Ruggero Razza?

It’s the first name I normally think of, due to recent, shared and not brief political militancy. In politics there are also personal relationships, which when frank and loyal last a long time. There are also other candidates who deserve consideration. I will talk about it with the members of ProgettiAmo Marsala, we will reflect on it and see if it will be possible to decide on a choice that has a long-term prospect. We are a civic movement but we also love to do politics beyond city borders and dialectical confrontation is one of our key principles.
