The Social Promotion Association “We for health” – Tina Anselmi from Caltanissetta:

“ Not a polyclinic, but a University Hospital to be built in three years: a clockwork opportunity!

Given that one of our documents published on our association’s Facebook page addresses this issue in much more depth, we believe it is appropriate to offer some food for thought.

There is a deadline on the Policlinico project in Caltanissetta. This deadline tells us we have three years. Such is the duration of the memorandum of understanding that has caused so much discussion and which, if on the one hand it tells us what needs to be done with a precise path, on the other hand it sets us terms. So let’s briefly summarize this path:

-The S.Elia Presidium must be transformed into a university hospital, located outside the provincial ASP and must be equipped with its own administrative bodies (General, Health and Administrative Management) distinct and separate from the current ones;

-The Complex Operational Units and the Simple Departmental Operational Units envisaged by the Level II DEA must be authorized and activated, i.e. those departments that have never been opened, announced or carried out the relevant competitions;

-The management of the Complex Operational Units and Simple Departmental Operational Units, i.e. the current and new departments, must be entrusted to university personnel, who must be identified, appointed and put into service;

-Probably new spaces will need to be identified and set up to host the activities planned by the new university hospital.

Times are tight but we must urge those who must take the necessary steps, because if these steps are not carried out we have lost another opportunity, another opportunity, perhaps the last: to complete the unfinished business of the DEA level II (Emergency Department -Acceptance urgency), which provides for those specialties and those activities in the departments already activated, the lack of which often pushes the inhabitants of Central Sicily to fuel that healthcare emigration in which we are now specialists.

We believe that the potential advantages deriving from the implementation of the above are evident for the entire healthcare system in Central Sicily in terms of quality and quantity of the services provided and certainly, by training future medical specialists and related professional figures on site, it can be useful for combating the issue of healthcare desertification. There are fewer and fewer specialized professional figures capable of making what is needed for healthcare work and if they are not attracted to our territory with greater job qualifications and a better working climate, we will hardly be able to ensure the necessary specialized personnel in the next five-year period for the awarding of medical specializations.

If all this comes to fruition it will be a success for everyone, otherwise we will play the part of a community that will once again see its legitimate expectations disappointed. Let’s not leave alone those who will be responsible for this process and let’s make it clear that the City cannot be distracted in this regard by magic and numbers that we willingly leave to the magicians.”
