Anticipation is mounting in Lucca for the arrival of the Giro d’Italia. The city hosts the fifth stage on Wednesday 8 May 2024. The caravan will arrive from via di Camaiore around 5.15pm, continue up to Borgo Giannotti, then turn right to travel along the avenues of the ring road, passing in front of Porta Sant’Anna and then turning into viale Carducci. The finish line is located in front of the former Campo Balilla.
On Wednesday the Municipality ordered the closure of schools throughout the municipal territory, and no market in Piazzale Don Baroni. Below are the parking and transit bans that will come into force between the evening of Tuesday 7th and the morning of Wednesday 8th May.
Prohibitions on the route – On the area of the route up to Piazzale Boccherini the parking ban with removal will be extended from 8.30 am on Wednesday 8th until the competition has completely passed, while the total closure to traffic is expected from 2.30 pm until the passage.
Prohibitions in service areas – In Piazza del Collegio and Piazza S. Maria, Viale Luporini (up to Piazzale Italia), Via Nieri, Via Giusti, Piazza Curtatone, Via Mazzini, Via Montegrappa, Via Nazario Sauro, Via Per Corte Pulia, Via Filzi no parking with removal from 8pm on Tuesday 7th until 9pm on Wednesday 8th.
Prohibitions in the arrival areas – In Viale Carducci including parking, Viale Cavour, Piazzale Ricasoli, Viale Regina Margherita, Piazza Umberto I, Viale della Repubblica, Porta S. Pietro: parking ban with removal from 8pm on Tuesday 7th to 11.59pm on Wednesday 8th. The transit ban will be active from 5am until 11.59pm on Wednesday 8th.
Prohibitions in the areas surrounding the arrival area – On May 8th, between 5.00 am and 9.00 pm, only the western lane of the viale Europa flyover will remain open to traffic, traffic will therefore be allowed to pass from Sant’Anna, piazzale Italia, via Nieri, viale Europe only in a southerly direction. To do the opposite route it will be necessary to use the San Donato variant and the Viale Città Gemelle overpass. Heavy traffic diverted to the Capannori motorway toll booth. No transit on Viale Giusti and Traverse from 5am (11am for private areas) to 9pm on Wednesday 8th.
