Hired and left without work in less than 24 hours, the fate of 35 drivers

Hired by a supplier company of Bartolini Trasporti Spa on April 30th and left without work in less than 24 hours. Possible? It happened to 35 drivers, selected and contracted by the Ferrara-based ‘Libera’. For them the company had negotiated more favorable salary conditions with Uiltrasporti and Sì Cobas.

The agreement, however, denounces Mirko Bergonzoni, regional secretary for Goods, Logistics and Shipping of Uiltrasporti “did not suit Bartolini” who therefore canceled the supply contract with ‘Libera’. In short, there is no respite for the logistics sector, which was on strike yesterday to demand the renewal of the national contract.

Interposition of manpower

In this way Bartolini would have been responsible for an “interposition of manpower” towards Libera, explains the trade unionist, who had obtained the contract to supply 30 vehicles and 35 employees from 2 May. A contract which, according to Bergonzoni, “was canceled because ‘Libera’, in hiring the 35 workers necessary to carry out the supply with BRT, signed an agreement with Uiltrasporti and Sì Cobas which provides favorable salary conditions”.

Bartolini’s moves

But there’s more. “Bartolini first advised the supplier against applying these improved conditions – explains Bergonzoni – then he canceled the contract overnight, without providing explanations. We unions only found out about it on April 30th and overnight we found ourselves with 35 workers out of work and the company had purchased 30 vehicles, which will be parked in their yard tomorrow.”

A true cataclysm, to stem which the unions have “sent communication to the prefectures of Bologna and Ferrara” and are preparing to do battle.

The unions protest

The protest is inevitable, which the unions have organized tomorrow morning “in front of the gates of Bartolini in via Mattei in Bologna to ask the company to immediately reactivate these jobs that have been lost” and the strikes in all the group’s offices and in supplier companies in the region. In any case, “Bartolini should not have interfered in the hiring of one of its suppliers – explains Bergonzoni -: for us what happened is a crime, then justice will take its course”.

Libera, Bartolini’s supplier, would also have suffered significant damage, because “it hired staff and purchased around thirty vehicles which will be parked in the company yard in Ferrara tomorrow”.
