The CGIL of Ragusa and on May 1st, the general secretary Scifo: “Fight against precarious work and deaths at work

This year, May 1st for the CGIL is an event that is mainly characterized by the fight against precarious work and deaths at work. For this reason, on 25 April the CGIL started collecting signatures to present 4 referendums to repeal laws that have made work more precarious starting from the Jobs Act. A referendum, explains the general secretary Peppe Scifo, which has the aim of changing the wrong laws which in the last decade have deconstructed the regulatory system of protections such as art. 18. The objective of this referendum is to put work at the center of the political debate, which for some time now has suffered from the loss of social value.

The CGIL is engaged in a 360-degree mobilization to put labor issues back at the center of the political agenda with particular attention to the new generations for whom employment is lacking or precarious. But there is also the gender issue with the disparities that still exist today and which make women’s work even more precarious and with fewer rights. In our territory there is the issue of poor work as a consequence of the widespread irregularity that relegates our province to the last places in Italy for average salary levels, despite the liveliness of our production system.

Just as the issue of labor exploitation and gangmastering persists, especially in agriculture, to the detriment mainly of migrant workers whose fragilities, starting with citizenship rights, determine a high degree of vulnerability.

May 1st must therefore mean a moment to call everyone to fight for the rights, for the dignity of those who work, but also to put social disputes back at the center such as the reconquest of the right to health through the relaunch of public health to reverse the trend that has seen the privatization of the healthcare system in recent years.

These are the battles at the center of the CGIL’s mobilization for which it is necessary to create networks and alliances with civil society, associations and movements that work daily to put social justice back at the center according to the provisions of the Constitution.
