thieves escape with the loot of 6 thousand euros

Theft at the Fortress of Arezzo. During the night, the cash resulting from a few days’ collection was stolen. The computer used to manage ticketing with the drawer containing the money was also taken away.

The operators who noticed this were the ones who arrived on site this morning to open the Fortress to visits and saw that there were already people inside. However, the large iron entrance gate was closed. Once it opened, the operators found a bitter surprise. The computer, cash drawer and cash were gone. It would be around 6 thousand euros and not 17 thousand euros as it seemed at first. In fact, most of the tickets had been cashed at the POS and were therefore already safe.

The tourists who were found inside had recently entered through another gate which served as the starting point for the thieves. According to initial reconstructions by the Arezzo police who are carrying out the investigation, the thieves would have acted at night and broken the chain with the padlock of a secondary gate on the cemetery side. From there they would enter until they reached the entrance on the internal side. Here they found the loot and took it away.

“We need to understand what happened in detail and why the alarm didn’t sound – explained the director of the Guido d’Arezzo Foundation which manages the museum sites and also the Lorenzo Cinatti Fortress – we found that he had been well inserted. We decided anyway to remain open and leave entry free because we are unable to provide tickets given the theft we have suffered. In the next few hours I will personally go to file a report.”

It seems that the money collected referred to the last period, including the long weekend of April 25th, which had brought a large number of visitors.
