The founder of the Analogical Method, Camillo Bortolato, returns to Foggia to present his latest work: ‘At school with Pitti 2’, published by Erickson and the result of research and improvement work.

The intuitive approach to effective learning through metaphors and analogies is enriched with a new volume.

This year, ‘At school with Pitti 2’, dedicated to the second class, has been added to the series dedicated to the first class, ‘At school with Pitti 1’, launched last year.

The book will be presented on Friday 3 May, starting at 4.30 pm, in the Vittorino da Feltre State Comprehensive Institute, in via San Francesco Antonio Fasani. Together with Camillo Bortolato, Giusi Antonia Toto, professor of Didactics and Special Pedagogy at the University of Foggia and delegate of the Rector for Teacher Education and Training, and Mary Semeraro, teacher and trainer of the Analogue Method, will be present.

During the event, authors, teachers, students and industry experts will share their experiences and visions regarding this innovative methodology.

“As the first University friendly to the Analog Method, it is with great pleasure that we today take the opportunity to explore and discuss this important contribution in the field of education and pedagogy – says Professor Giusi Toto, coordinator of the Learning Science hub, a research center of the University of Foggia -. The analogue method proposed by Camillo Bortolato represents an innovative and significant approach in the teaching of all disciplines. His research and commitment to finding alternative ways to convey complex concepts in an accessible and engaging way for all children is worthy of note and study. This volume offers a detailed analysis of the method proposed by Camillo, highlighting its practical applications and its potential in the educational field “.

The book represents, in fact, an important milestone in the field of education and innovative teaching, focusing attention on the Analog Method created by the master Camillo Bortolato and on the engaging experiences lived during the days dedicated to experimentation.

“This tailored approach focuses its attention on the correct learning contents, consequently making it more in line with the students’ potential – underlines the master Camillo Bortolato, creator of the Analogical Method -. To do this, it uses concrete tools on a subject-by-subject basis. Beyond transmitting knowledge, it encourages the development of problem solving and critical thinking skills. Students are encouraged to explore, ask questions and find creative solutions to problems, thus contributing to the growth of their cognitive skills. Finally, this teaching approach also aims to consolidate students’ confidence in their own abilities. The gradual and progressive approach, starting from the fundamentals and then progressing to more complex concepts, helps students develop confidence in their abilities. These are the reasons that as a teacher moved me to apply it, after carefully observing the students in class”,

The Analogical Method proposed by maestro Bortolato, therefore, represents today a revolutionary methodology in the field of education, offering a creative and intuitive approach especially in the learning of mathematical concepts.

This book presents a detailed analysis of the reasons that pushed Professor Toto and the Learning Science hub to promote this method and start experiments conducted with students, highlighting the experiences, practices and research that have characterized this path of innovative learning.

“Since its foundation, Erickson has taken care to start from the work of teachers in the classrooms (from a community of ‘practitioners’), with the aim of discovering and understanding what could work and include more in teaching – adds Giuseppe Degara, Erickson Analog Method coordinator –. Even in this area, what is innovative by its nature is announced first, but is always measured later. After it has left its mark and achieved significant diffusion, generating added value, making what was previously more complicated easier, improving the acquisition of skills and fueling advancements, inclusion, exchanges, reflections and consequences on learning in general. In the case of the tools and materials of the Analogical Method, and the other happy intuitions of its author Camillo Bortolato, over three decades we have witnessed their constant use and evaluation year after year by thousands of teachers and students, who testify to have taught and learned more effectively and profitably. Now more systematic attention from researchers can only complete this ‘bottom-up’ evaluation in a synergy that can only benefit the school”.

The book presentation event will be open to all those interested in exploring the new frontiers of teaching and learning, offering an opportunity for dialogue and exchange of ideas between academics and professionals in the sector.
