our trip to the Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco

Castiglione del Bosco it is a place that cannot be called a resort or simply a luxury destination. Perhaps the claim that accompanies it, “sense of place”, is the most representative. Sense of home. A place in the world.

Castiglione del Bosco it has no gates, you get there via a dirt road that evokes a timeless place, where everything stops. Around there are villas, part of the 2,000 hectares of estate. They were the farmhouses of the past, built in the 17th and 18th centuries, today transformed into private residences immersed in the countryside of Val d’Orcia, in Tuscany. An ancient village that still houses the ruins of the castle from 1,100 AD and a medieval church from the 14th century, still consecrated. Then the woods populated by deer and fallow deer.

Massimo and Chiara Ferragamo they fell in love more than 20 years ago with this place, now managed by the Hong Kong group, Rosewood. It is their first location in Italy, soon to arrive in Rome (overlooking Via Veneto and located in the premises of a former headquarters of the BNL bank), Milan (near Via Montenapoleone) and Venice.

The journey to Castiglion del Bosco is part of the revealing experience the essence of Tuscany. We move immersed in the greenery of the countryside, a UNESCO heritage site and cradle of Brunello di Montalcino. It was the winery – among the founding members of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino in 1967 – that brought the old owners to this hidden place.

Today Rosewood manages 42 suites and 11 villas here (nine of which have just been renovated). The soul of the structure is made up of 3 main parts. There is hospitality with suites, villas and two restaurants, the cellar part and the golf club, the first and only private one in Italy. The three parts talk to each other, live together and coexist to give the guest the unforgettable sensation of “experience”. Because everything here is experience.

The design of the rooms is meticulous in detail to evoke the warm and aristocratic welcome of the Tuscan countryside. There is attention for the guest who cannot help but feel at home in the comfortable armchairs of the living room and in the refined pampering that he receives every time he returns to the room.

The two heated swimming pools available to guests overlooking the woods which, at any time of the year, convey serenity and authenticity. Some of the rooms overlook the center of the village. Where there was the barracks there are now suites like houses. In Castiglion del Bosco there are still those who were born there and relive the atmosphere of their childhood every day. The cost of the junior suite with breakfast included is 2,750 euros while a borgo suite reaches 4,167 per night.
