The Demonstration of Riace Bronzes Awardnow in its 33rd edition, was born from an idea by Giuseppe TripodiPresident of the tourist association “Proloco City of Reggio Calabria” and is sponsored by Chamber of Commerce of Reggio Calabria, by the Presidency of the Regional Council of Calabria, by the Presidency of the Council of the Veneto Region and by the Metropolitan City of the Municipality of Reggio Calabria.
The idea of creating this Award was inspired by an anniversary: the anniversary of the discovery of the Riace Bronzes, the two colossal statues found in the Ionian sea, about 300 meters from the Calabrian coast, which lay sunk in the seabed in front of Riace. The year was 1972 when Stefano Mariottinia Roman chemist with a hobby of diving, made the discovery of the century: two works of immeasurable artistic value, dated between 460 and 450 BC, two imposing male bodies, molded in bronze and anatomically perfect, two characters between the human and the divine, between reality and myth.
The intent of President Tripodi, of the honorary one, Giuseppe Viceconte and of all the staff, it has always been to want to enhance the beloved Calabria, promoting its countless artistic – archaeological resources, and at the same time, from the words of Tripodi: «to offer recognition to those figures who, as proud warriors, have contributed to raising the respect and esteem for Italy ever higher not only in our country, but throughout the world».
The 33rd edition ceremony will take place this year in Venice, a city of extraordinary beauty and timeless hypnotic charm, inside the majestic Sala Canova of the Veneto Regional Council, located in the heart of the Serenissima in Piazza San Marco. Among this year’s winners there are figures of great importance and among these the name of our director of Calabria.Live, Dr. stands out.
