centre-right stalemate, now the focus is on Preziosi

It is an increasingly divided center-right that is looking at the local elections in the city of Avellino. For several months now, we have been trying to identify a mayoral candidate capable of getting everyone to agree but after countless meetings and gatherings (the last summit in chronological order ended late yesterday night, ed.) the positions of the various actors in the field remain absolutely distant. In the last few hours, in truth, a name has emerged on which many political exponents would be ready to converge, it is that of the lawyer Olindo Preziosi, son of the former mayor of Avellino, Massimo, whose availability, however, cannot be taken for granted. On the other hand, it is a suggestive name with a view to setting up a broad and articulated coalition, capable of going beyond the parties of the coalition, and considering the context in which we are moving it is very unlikely that this will be out.

There are therefore still many issues to be resolved and the only certainty, at least until today, is the coming into play of the Brothers of Italy in support of the mayoral candidate Modestino Iandoli. The latter, in recent days, confirmed his candidacy, hoping that the rest of the centre-right group can somehow find reasons to regroup. As for the others, the regional councilor of the Moderates and Reformists, Livio Petittowho is also working to find mediation, continues to focus on the outgoing municipal councilor Costantino Preziosi, the mayor of Montefalcione, Angelo Antonio D’Agostino, pushes for the journalist Rino Genovesewhile the Central Union, which in the last few hours would have found support in Forza Italia at a regional level, looks to its provincial coordinator, Gennaro Romei. Then there is the Primavera Meridionale formation, led by Sabino Morano, who has already indicated Lazzaro Iandolo as a candidate for mayor for months.

The time available to find a solution is really starting to run out, given that there are just over ten days left to present the lists, and for this very reason, even today, despite it being May 1st, yet another summit with all the city secretaries should be held of the coalition parties. The real theme, once identified candidate for mayorin fact, it will be that of the composition of the lists and identifying 32 candidates capable of gathering a fair amount of electoral consensus is very complicated, so it is likely that some acronyms will decide to get together. This being the case, many hypothesize that the negotiations could soon return to Rome where, without beating around the bush too much, it could be decided to impose a candidate and allow an armed truce.

The scenario is already too chaotic as it is, but the fact that the centre-right affair has become intertwined with that relating to the civic lists linked to the former mayor Gianluca Festa it makes everything even more unpredictable. The representatives of the latter, in fact, on Monday evening made it known that they were not interested in entering into agreements with political groups, being convinced of the need to safeguard and enhance, net of the ongoing judicial investigations, the work done so far by the administration . In short, a solo race is expected, even if indicating the name of the mayoral candidate today is not really possible. Therefore, the efforts made so far by both Petitto and the Christian Democrat parliamentarian Gianfranco Rotondi to keep everyone together and build a civic coalition, strong enough to compete with a center-left that is historically well rooted in the city, have been to no avail.
