In Agrigento, against petty crime and, in particular, the spread of youth drug use, the mayor Franco Miccichè and the local police councilor, Carmelo Cantone, have strengthened or introduced video surveillance systems in the places deemed most sensitive , or schools and meeting spaces, such as the Calcarelle area, Viale della Vittoria, Villa Bonfiglio and Villa Arancio. Cantone states: “The issue of security is a topic of primary importance, so video surveillance, in addition to being a deterrent against crime, represents an effective tool for the police forces operating in the area. And it marks a significant step towards creating safer and more secure communities. It is important that citizens perceive that the places frequented, especially by younger people, are monitored and safe”.
