Riviera del Brenta, Coraggio Italia: «In our cemeteries we need an area reserved for Muslims»

«The mayors of the Brenta Riviera should evaluate the opportunity to place within the city cemeteries an area designated for Islamic burials which will prevent them from migrating for tens of kilometers to visit the tombs of their loved ones».

The opposition municipal councilor of. launched the proposal to the president of the conference of mayors, Marco Dori Courage Italy Paolo Lucarda who is also a well-known funeral director by profession.

«In our territories», explains Lucarda, «people of different religions increasingly live. Very often of Islamic religion. Precisely for this reason it is important, if we want to aim for effective integration, to make specific areas available to these people within the cemeteries, which need a special ceremony. These areas exist only in provincial capitals.

It would not be difficult to identify and designate a specific area within at least one cemetery per municipality for citizens of the Islamic religion. More and more citizens would feel integrated into the territory in which they live, having buried their loved ones near where they live. These people live, work and are part of the history of our territories.

Consider, for example, the case of Dr. Samar who died of Covid and to whom the Municipality of Mira named a park a few weeks ago.

If there had been an ad hoc area in Mira it would have been buried here, and not at Marghera. Furthermore, often, as in the case of Mestre, the areas intended for Islamic burials, not being very large and gathering people from a vast territory, quickly fill up.

If they were distributed in every country things would change.

The president of the Conference of Mayors of the Brenta Riviera Marco Dori is in favor of the idea and will propose it to the 10 mayors of the district.

«This is an idea that can be shared», explains Dori, «which if accepted also presupposes precise plans for the expansion or urban adaptation of the cemeteries involved. I’ll take it to the discussion of the next meeting of the mayors of the Riviera and also, as far as I’m concerned, in the city council in Mira.
