Foligno, Mario Guidi award to jazz guitarist Simone Sansonetti

Foligno, 1 May 2024 – “Mario Guidi Award” to the twenty-six-year-old guitarist Simone Sansonetti. The delivery ceremony also closed, on Sunday 28th, the two days of jazz that the Friends of Music of Foligno have been dedicating since 2022 to Mario Guidi, from Foligno, who passed away in 2019, a leading figure and pioneer of jazz management in Italy.

After the success of the Enrico Rava event, staged on Saturday 27th at the San Domenico with the pianist Giovanni Guidi – son of Mario Guidi -, the San Carlo Theater was the setting for the awards ceremony followed the concert of Simone Sansonetti Triowith the winner on guitar, Alessandro Vassilis Bintzios on double bass, Cesare Mangiocavallo on drums.

The cash scholarship – 2000 Euros – was presented by the president of the Foligno musical association Giorgio Battisti and the artistic director Marco Scolastra. “This recognition is inspired by that meeting between generations that has always animated the work of our friend and extraordinary professional Mario Guidi – commented Battisti -. In his team, alongside the great names of world jazz, there was always attention to young talents. We have set out, in our own small way, in his wake.”

As for Simone Sansonetti, Roman, from Castel Gandolfo, guitarist and composer, he was the winner as the best graduate in 2023 at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome. “The news of the award was a wonderful surprise. I am very happy and honored.

I have received other national awards but never anything that could concretely support my study path and ongoing projects. In particular, I will dedicate part of the amount to the production of a trio album which I hope to complete within the year. I truly thank the Friends of Music for this important initiative to support music and the new generations.”
