The earth continues to rise Phlegraean Fields.
In light of the monitoring data, acquired and published by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, relating to the week from 22 to 28 April 2024, we learn that in the Campi Flegrei area, the uplift recorded at the RITE GPS station (RIONE TERRA ), reached the threshold of 120 centimetressince January 2011 (in last week’s bulletin it was 119.5 centimetres).
«From January to early April 2024 the average value of the lifting speed in the area of maximum deformation is approximately 10+/3 mm/month at the Rione Terra GNSS station (RITE). From 9 to 16 April, two episodes of ground lifting were recorded at the RITE GNSS station, respectively of approximately 1 cm (9-10 April) and 0.5 cm (15-16 April). These two episodes were also recorded by the other GNSS stations close to RITE in a radius of approximately 2-3 km, with progressively decreasing values moving away from the zone of maximum deformation. Subsequently (interval 17-29 April), no significant deformations were recorded with the exception of the last two days, following the event of 27 April. In total, in the last 21 days there was an uplift in the area of maximum deformation of approximately 2.5 centimeters A reliable estimate of the average lifting speed on a monthly basis can be made with data from the coming weeks.”
In the last 21 days, an increase of 2.5 centimeters has been recorded in the area of maximum deformation.
