Bad weather in Piedmont: rain on yellow alert

«Rain and showers widespread, even of strong intensity, on May 1st and for much of Thursday, particularly near the Alpine valleys and on the adjacent plains». These are the forecasts from Arpa Piemonte which issued a yellow alert bulletin for the first day of May on the plains and in the western and north-western Alpine and pre-Alpine areas. There is hydrogeological risk and avalanche risk in Piedmont. Moderate and heavy rainfall is expected from today morning, locally very heavy in the western and northern areas, including thunderstorms. The snow level is expected at 1800-2000 metres. The bad weather will also continue on Thursday with moderate rainfall in the first part of the day, but generally easing in the afternoon, when light showers may occur. On the mountain front, the gradual rise in temperatures is leading to the humidification of the snowpack up to high altitudes. The precipitation expected in the next few days will bring significant accumulations of new snow in the high mountains, especially in the western and northern sectors, while the mid-mountain belt could be subject to intense rain events on snow that is still present.
