TRENT. After 21 years Marco Merler is no longer CEO of the Dolomiti Energia Group. With the appointment of the new board of directors by the shareholders’ meeting, an era has come to an end for the Trentino multi-utility. From next week a new one will open with the appointment of his replacement, the current new general director Stefano Granella, which settled in via Fersina last 3 April. For the moment Granella has been called to the new board of directors.

The names are those anticipated about ten days ago by Adige, i.e. the reconfirmed one president Silvia Arlanchthe vice president Massimo Fedrizzi (indicated by Finanziaria Trentina), in addition to Stefano Granella, the president of Amambiente (but indicated by the Municipality of Rovereto) Manuela Seraglio Forti, the accountant Michele Iori and the professor Chiara Tomasi (indicated by the Municipality of Trento), the former general secretary of the Province Paolo Nicoletti and the general director of Acsm Primiero Simone Canteri (for the Province), Giuseppe Consoli (Caritro Foundation), Marco Panfili (Equitix), Claudio Cortella (Bim), Giorgio Franceschi (Isa ).

Politically relevant is the fact that the small municipalities – through the Bim – this time voted in disagreement with the rest of the public by supporting the list promoted by a private partner like Isa. The board of auditors will be composed of the president Monia Bonenti and Maura Dalbosco and Laura Costa.

As mentioned, Granella’s appointment as new CEO will take place at the first meeting of the new board, probably next week. The composition of the Executive Committee will also be taken care of on that date. Members by right will be Arlanch, Granella and Fedrizzi. The Municipality of Trento as the largest shareholder will propose Iori. One more place remains. Three years ago it went to the private partners but it is conceivable that this time Piazza Dante will insist on having a figure of guarantee like that of Paolo Nicoletti.

The only doubt concerns the fact that as manager of the Province Nicoletti had worked on the public shareholders’ agreement and could have “incompatibility” problems. If it were deemed more prudent not to nominate him, the challenge would then be between Consoli and Franceschi. At the opening of the session, the shareholders approved the 2023 budget, resolving the distribution of 46 million in dividends, equal to 12 cents per share, compared to 6 in 2022. Out of a turnover of 2.3 billion, the net profit was in fact decidedly more substantial, 169.8 million euros compared to 9 the previous year. In 2023, gross operating margin grew to 392.6 million euros, almost doubled compared to 196.5 million in 2022.

The recovery of hydroelectric power and the positive contribution of commercial activities contributed to the result, as well as the cessation on 30 June of the levy linked to the high energy costs (the “Price cap”). The drop in prices also benefited from the point of view of financial exposure. The Group’s net financial position at the end of 2023 had fallen to 267.6 million euros, more than halved compared to the 642.8 million of 12 months earlier. «Results of which we must be proud because they are not only the result of generous hydraulicity in the second half of the year and of a positive energy market, but also of a Group that has demonstrated its ability to adapt to adverse and complex situations and its ability to cope admirably with unprecedented and often critical scenarios” said the president.

Merler, who will become the future bursar of the Diocese of Trento, presented his personal twenty-year budget: «My thanks to those who have made ambitious industrial and economic growth possible. I leave a strong and cohesive team on which my successor can count.”
