They had pretended to be members of the police force, starting a well-known and vile scam against the elderly. In fact, they had called pensioners, reporting that people close to them had been victims of road accidents and, by paying large sums of money, they had made them believe they were able to avoid more serious legal consequences for their families. Among those defrauded was also a 94-year-old from Modena: the criminals, securing her trust, had entered her home, taking away money and jewels, in particular wedding rings, to which the woman was particularly attached. The pensioner, thanks to the investigations conducted by the police station, managed to recover her valuables. In fact, on the evening of April 18, during the motorway check of a car already reported for being used by perpetrators of scams against elderly people in northern Italy, the officers of the Emilia Romagna Traffic Police Department, near the Casalecchio di Reno toll booth , they found a lot of money and numerous gold jewels in the passenger compartment of the vehicle. The driver of the Fiat 500X, a 36-year-old Italian, was reported for aggravated fraud and the police recovered the stolen goods. Thanks to the collaboration with the traffic police of Bologna South and the police headquarters of Trento and Modena, the agents managed to trace the elderly victims of the scams. In recent days, her jewels were returned to the emotional 94-year-old in the offices of the Modena Police Headquarters, including the gold wedding rings that she kept in memory of her late husband.
