The Italian Socialist Party of Marsala reveals the meeting that the mayor Massimo Grillo had in recent days with the precarious workers of the Municipality. From this meeting it emerged that the Administration intends to make a commitment, in their presence, that by 2025 the organization would provide for the stabilization of all staff who have been waiting for a contract for too many years full time. The PSi, however, wants to clarify the matter, also in the interest of the community.

The city secretary Antonio Consentino stated: “Until now the temporary workers of the Municipality of Marsala, who are used completely improperly to cover ordinary needs of office functionality, they simply got the‘insignificant increase in their weekly hours from 24 to 28, therefore much less than a mere “sop”. Massimo Grillo attributed the current lack of stabilization of precarious workers to an unspecified contractual adjustment imposed by the national government without a minimum compensation in the face of over one million and 200 thousand euros in contractual increases, stating that, despite this, the Municipality would have done a maneuver agreed with the unions that will allow the organization to achieve the result it has set for itself in 2024 and 2025. Well – he continues -, these excuses denote irresponsibility and are exclusively designed to confuse the ideas of the unfortunate precarious workers, giving them, only in the abstract, a glimmer of hope, given that in concrete terms the stabilization of everyone is certainly unachievable“.

The Italian Socialist Party of Marsala highlights, indeed, how Grillo cannot make such commitments with precarious workers, if not for mere propaganda reasons “given that there are not and never will be the sums available in order to be able to hire everyone and in the PIAO, Integrated Activity and Organization Plan 2023/2025, easily consultable on the Institution’s institutional website, which every public administration is obliged to adopt, the Municipality of Marsala has foreseen only three stabilizations for the year 2024, despite being aware of the very high number of workers with fixed-term contracts. Grillo, rather than deluding the precarious workers of the Municipality with turns of phrase and empty promises, would do well to tell the truth”.

It’s still: “The mayor should keep in mind that in contractual public work, in accordance with what was stated by the European Court of Justice and the Court of Cassation with United Sections, in the event of illegitimate or abusive reiteration of fixed-term work supply contracts, the workers precarious workers are entitled to compensation for the so-called “community damage” in the amount equal to an all-inclusive allowance between 2.5 and 12 months of the final overall de facto salary. The hope is that Mayor Grillo will immediately hold a series of meetings with temporary workers and trade unions in order to reach an agreement aimed at mutual satisfaction, which realistically can never be based on the stabilization of all contracted employees complete – finally states the secretary on behalf of the Marsala PSI -. This is also in order to avoid the hesitation of a possible request for compensation for “community damage” by the many workers, who have been without guarantees of stability for too many years, which would have disastrous consequences for the municipal coffers and, therefore, for the citizens”.
