Workplace Safety and Economic Development according to Giovanni Musumeci, UGL

May Day a Catania it becomes an opportunity to reflect on safety in the workplace, a priority according to Giovanni Musumeci, UGL territorial secretary.

While many companies only see safety costs, accidents are especially prevalent in non-union family businesses.

Musumeci also highlights the economic stability and increase in hiring in Catania, with particular attention to large companies such as STMicroelectronics and Enel Green Power, as well as a delicate moment for Pfizer.

Catania’s public sector is preparing for new hires, including the Metropolitan City and University. Musumeci also highlights the stabilization of Municipal Police officers and new hires in healthcare.

However, urgent challenges remain such as the Single Zes, which offers great development opportunities, and the Free Zone, long overdue to promote investments and diversify the local economy.

The UGL secretary concludes by underlining the importance of addressing these issues to ensure the economic relaunch of Catania, emphasizing worker participation in the management of businesses as a successful model.
