SERRA SAN QUIRICO – There is, in the Marche, a village all stone and rocks, alleys and stairways, loggias, towers and covered walkways, which stands on breathtaking views of hills, gorges and woods, and which for about forty years, for a short period of the year, it is filled with children and teenagers, united by a love for the theatre. This year too, in Serra San Quirico (AN), every day from last April 26th until next May 4th, the protagonist is the Education Theatre, that educational practice which, at school and beyond, promotes awareness of oneself and others others, sociality and participation, inclusion, critical spirit.

The National Theater School Education Review is the most important national event in the sector, a cultural project during which shows are presented and moments of discussion and exchange are organised. For its 39th edition, 216 young people from schools of all levels, 25 teachers, 20 theater workers from various regions of Italy met in the Marche town. The underlying theme of 2024 is Carlo Urbani and Gino Strada, two courageous doctors who dedicated their lives to the care of others, with a sense of responsibility, justice and love of peace. The event organized by the Teatro Giovani Teatro Pirata unfolds around these two leading figures under the artistic and educational direction of Fabrizio Giuliani, Arianna Baldini and Miriana Resconi.

Events

On Wednesday May 1st, at 3 pm the students of the Amiata Ovest campus of Arcidosso (GR) are on the stage of the Teatro Palestra in “Non ho fare in tempo”, a show that talks about the speed of our times and wants to make us reflect on the need for a slow and thoughtful approach to the things of life. At 9 pm the staff of the National Exhibition animates the streets of Serra San Quirico with the performance “Serra sensorial: a gift!”, a gift to all citizens and groups participating in the event. Thursday 2 May at 9 am the students of the IIS Gobbetti Marchesini Casale Arduino of Turin will perform their show “This is how the dead go to my town. The story of Peppino Impastato” which tells, from the point of view of his mother, the strenuous struggle of the Sicilian journalist against the mafia. At 3 pm the “Chiacchiere” will be staged, an open rehearsal of the show by the Tos Villa Vicentina theater group from Fiumicello Villa Vicentina (PD). At 9pm there is “Hop Frog!” of the Tos Retrobottega group of Capezzone Pianore (LU). It continues on Friday 3 May at 3pm with the IIS Gobetti Marchesini Casale Arduino of Turin in “A dream called Europe” and at 9pm the Tos La Bottega del Teatro di Capezzone Pianore (LU) in “AiLati. A mirror of Italy ” on what it means to be Italian in 2024. The National Festival of Serra San Quirico closes on Saturday 4 May at 9am with Officina Italia at the Teatro Palestra, and the nominations for the “Maura Baldi”, “Alfredo Puccianti” and “Giuliano Scabia” awards ” which highlight significant paths of teachers, operators and writers within the Education Theater in Italy.

The event avails itself of the support and collaboration of the Ministry of Culture, the Marche Region, the Unione Montana dell’Esino Frasassi, the Municipality of Serra San Quirico, the Regional Council of the Legislative Assembly of the Marche, Cooss; sponsors BCC Ostra Vetere and Togni Spa. The events open to the public are at the Teatro Palestra and have free admission.
