Elena Pellegrino, wife of the engineer Luigi Giustolisi, who passed away a few years ago, has passed away at almost 100 years of age. He leaves behind three daughters and a large and historic family. This is the memory of his nephew Piero Pellegrino: “Aunt Elena was for me a firm, important point in the path of my life: she was my godmother at baptism, together with her uncle Giuzzi, her husband, and this role played a role of absolute affection and respect that I felt and brought with me for life. Memories resurface, many, many, from the Christmas nights spent together at lunches in their elegant home among the absolute goodness of an elegant and refined cuisine that was influenced by both Sicilian and French roots, the legacy of grandmother Josephine De Spagne, wife of that Carlo Pellegrino who founded the wineries of the same name famous throughout the world. And then the many moments spent at the home of his parents, his grandparents Piero and Nilla, in the noble Palazzo Fici or the Sundays spent in the countryside with us, at the Carrubo, between roasted artichokes and immense barbecues or in their beautiful home in Santa Venera, where I spent my childhood trying to catch – in vain – frogs in the pond, together with my little cousins. She leaves her daughters Luisa, Carla and Anna and a myriad of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who adored her, as one would do with an affectionate and lovable woman. Hi aunt Elena, say hello to Uncle Giuzzi and the grandparents and prepare them that sublime dish of yours which I adored and which you often brought me – to my great joy and surprise – to the pharmacy: artichokes with mayonnaise. I can taste them, I can feel the love for them. I love you”.
