“The role of service agriculture, as emerges from the latest findings, shows a trend destined to become increasingly consolidated, despite the general negative economic situation of the primary sector, grappling with climate emergencies and crises at an international level”: with these words Leonardo Bolispresident of Confai Bergamo and Confai Lombardia, members of CAI Agromec, commented on the framework offered by the Institute of services for the agricultural and food market (Ismea) as part of the seventh edition of Report on agritourism and multifunctionality.
The study highlights that companies dedicated to agritourism activities in Italy have now almost reached the 26,000 unitsa historic record for our country, thanks to growing demand, as demonstrated by the total of 15.5 million annual attendances, well beyond pre-covid values.
“In the province of Bergamo, in addition to the agricultural companies specifically engaged in the agritourism sector, there are those dedicated to the direct sale of agricultural products and all the production units in the agricultural world which are characterized by maintaining a direct relationship with the final consumer – recalls the provincial secretary of Confai Bergamo, Enzo Cattaneo -. All these corporate structures, which also include some entities organized in the form of cooperatives, have for some time now exceeded the threshold of 600 units, showing a significant ability to diversify sources of income, especially in mountainous or generally disadvantaged areas”.
In Lombardy, according to the latest report, multifunctional agriculture as a whole, divided into secondary and support activities (which include cultivation services for third parties), records an economic value of 15.3% of total production gross agricultural salable income of the region.
