In the meeting between the Government and the union representatives on the former Ilva of Taranto, the commissioners presented a sort of hypothesis of the new industrial plan which will reach its completion in 2027 with the construction of two electric ovens, where the works will begin in 2025 and which will have to produce: 4 million tons of steel per year for a total production of 6 million tons every year in Taranto, while the authorization of the new plan provides for the production of 8 million tons of steel.

Present for the Government are the Minister of Business and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, the Minister of Labor and Social Policies, Marina Calderone, the Minister of Economy, Giancarlo Giorgetti via video link, and the Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council, Alfredo Mantua. Ugl Metalmeccanici present at the meeting with Antonio Spera, national secretary of Ugl Metalmeccanici and Alessandro Dipino, territorial representative of Taranto.

The representatives of the UGL inform: “In the immediate future, to give continuity to the production of the factories, in addition to the 150 million euros already put in place and available to the commissioners, there will also be another possibility of a further 150 million euros in addition to the 320 million of the bridge loan for a total of 620 million euros to start producing 6 million tons of steel from 2025”.

In the second half of May, visits have been scheduled to the former Ilva plants by companies that have expressed interest in the possible purchase of the steel hub and will visit the plants. Subsequently, an assignment could be made if the industrial entities give guarantees of acquisition of the entire plants of the largest steel company in Europe.

Furthermore, it emerged from the meeting that blast furnace 5 is not included in the new industrial plan presented, which deserves extensive in-depth analysis.

The commissioners reiterated that the current employment levels of all workers are guaranteed.

“A new meeting with commissioners and trade union organizations has been scheduled for 7 May – Spera informs – at the Confindustria headquarters in Rome in Viale dell’Astronomia”.
