Barletta-Fasano: still 90 minutes to hope

For the thirty-third and penultimate day of group H of Serie D, a very interesting match between the home team and Fasano will be played at the “Puttilli” in Barletta. Very interesting because it’s an inside or outside match, both teams are embroiled in the playout zone and the points up for grabs could change destinies and weigh double.

The most critical situation is undoubtedly that of Barletta, for whom not even a draw would be of any use; the watchword is to win and then hope, between now and the last day, for the most profitable combination of results in view of the final play-offs. The same thing can be said for Fasano, fresh from five defeats in a row which saw a situation in the rankings that a few months ago not even the most pessimistic would have predicted become incredibly complicated.

In this electric match where making mistakes is forbidden, with the motto “Let’s all believe it. Let’s not give up. United for salvation”, the home club tried to encourage the best sporting environment by giving up the “Pro Barletta” day and in addition to allowing season ticket holders entry, allowing free access to all school students of all levels.

As far as I’m concerned, I’m leaving early for the city of the well-known challenge of 1503 between Ettore Fieramosca’s thirteen knights and the same number of French knights opposed over a pure question of honour, made famous by Massimo D’Azeglio’s novel. History and traditions of which even the walls of the stadium drip, painted with the colors of the fans, as well as the rest of the city’s works and monuments, among which there is no shortage of references to the sporting era, including the memory of the immortal Pietro Mennea, champion Olympic athlete and for seventeen very long years world record holder in the two hundred meters (even today his 19″72, beaten first by Johnson and then by Bolt, still stands as a European record).

Precisely the “Mennea day” celebrations in 2022 saw the stadium returned to the city after a long exile of the team and extensive renovations of the structure. Despite everything, entering it after a long time gives the same identical emotions as in the past and the inevitable resurfacing of old memories, also a sign that the intervention was not invasive and was able to preserve the atmosphere and its history.

A nice compact group arrives from Fasano and makes its entrance displaying a banner dedicated to the young Barletta native Karol, who passed away in the days preceding the race; banner applauded by the entire stadium and which finds its counterpart in the home corner and ten minutes of silence in memory of her.

Another banner of the local ultras is the one that has been targeting the top red and white manager for some time. The presence of the brothers from Salzburg is also noticeable among their ranks, while all the commitment, all the passion, all the desire to fight and save the category in the stands, have not found an equal response on the playing field, where instead they are the guests to win 2-3, taking three very important points which, in view of the last home match against Paganese in very quiet areas, could really be worth half salvation.

The obvious joy and final celebration of the people of Fasano, after a match in which they showed off the usual repertoire of chants, clapping and a bit of pyrotechnics, is counterbalanced by the even more bitter final protest of the people of Barletta. Today’s 102 minutes were not enough but hopefully the last ninety minutes in Angri will be enough, in the presence of the grey-reds who are not exactly inclined to give gifts, but whoever wants the future must be willing to fight.
